Core Safety Principles

Risk Assessment & Hazard Identification

Each morning, crews perform a Job Safety Analysis to assess potential hazards at the worksite and implement suitable safety controls.

Competent Personnel

We utilize skilled and experienced personnel who have completed training and hold certifications across various oil and gas pipeline applications.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Allegheny Contracting adheres to PPE standards, requiring essential gear such as a hard hat, safety glasses, a Class 3 vest, gloves, and safety-toed boots.

Engineering Controls

Recognizing that PPE is the final safeguard, our crews utilize various engineering controls—including trench protection, site barricades, and hole plates—to enhance safety.

Administrative Controls

Implementation of safe work practices, permit systems, lockout/tagout procedures, emergency response plans, and regular safety meetings.

Emergency Preparedness

First aid stations, evacuation procedures with designated assembly areas, communication systems, and rescue plans.

Underground Key Hazard Areas

Risks Associated with Underground Pipelines

Underground pipeline construction presents unique and often complex challenges. Working beneath the surface introduces various hazards such as ground instability, the risk of collapses, confined spaces, and existing utilities. Addressing these risks demands thorough planning, specialized training, and continuous vigilance to ensure the safety of workers and protect the environment.

Examples include:

  • Ground instability
  • Collapses or cave-ins
  • Pre-existing utilities
  • Confined space hazards
  • Hazardous substances or contaminated soils
  • Underground obstructions like rocks
  • Environmental hazards
  • Air Quality & Ventilation
  • Falling Hazards & Fall Protection
  • Noise and Vibration
  • Utility Locating
